I used a word play about a turkey wishbone. Then, I used a quote from Star Wars actor James Earl Jones about stuttering. Next, I talked about homeostasis and equilibrium.
In this week's RITE OF PASSAGE EXPERIENCES or ROPE, I talked about how many parents tried to keep the family equilibrium. My dad sometimes got upset with my inability to keep up with my family and friends. My disability and processing issues were not treated as reasonable factors in different situations. Handwriting and physical therapy issues were hard for me to negotiate/articulate. I ended the episode and talked about cognitive dissonance and the emotional connection that developed between me and my crutches.

Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
I used a word play about polio. Then, I used a quote from Star Wars actor James Earl Jones about Marilyn Monroe. Next, I talked about finding humor in difficult situations with gallows humor.
In this week's RITE OF PASSAGE EXPERIENCES or ROPE, I talked about finding gallows humor and power in Polish jokes. But my dad made light of me falling at my expense. I also talked about finding solidarity and resilience from shared experiences. After turning cripples into “crips”, the common denominator became a rallying cry. In another situation, “crips” became a positive part of the surgical scar identities some people with disabilities had. I finished the episode with another gallows humor strike forward.
